Bonython Estate Gardens will open on 8 June 2020 from Monday to Friday 10am to 4pm. We look forward to welcoming all our visitors again.
Situated on England’s southernmost Lizard Peninsula, Bonython Estate offers excitement and surprises, with colour and interest in all seasons.
Remodelled in recent years to include a contemporary water feature behind the delightful Georgian house, stroll through an eighteenth century Walled Garden with colour-themed herbaceous borders, a traditional Potager Garden and an orchard of Cornish variety apple trees, on through parkland to a series of small lakes with a stream cascade in a sheltered valley.
Each lake has a different atmosphere and planting … the first tranquil with specimen trees and shrubs reflected in the water. the second vibrant from the hot, South African summer garden, and the third mysterious, with its cool, ghostly quarry lake with creeper clad cliffs, fernery and surrounding bamboos.
Magnificent in spring with traditional Cornish rhododendrons, azaleas, woodland flowers and bulbs, colour develops all through the summer with soft harmonies of the herbaceous beds to explosions of hot colour in the South African areas with drifts of ornamental grasses, cannas, rubeckias and proteas.
Bonython is a traditional, mixed agricultural Cornish estate with the 18th century Manor, farm and woodland stretching almost from one side of the peninsula (the Helford River) to the other (the beach at Poldhu Cove) with each shore just over a mile away.
Visit us, stay with us in one of our exquisite cottages, or even enjoy your wedding here in our very special "chapel", Whatever you decide, Bonython's atmosphere of peace and calm will be yours to enjoy before you explore the historic coves and the coastal paths of this most beautiful part of Cornwall.
